A planned bridge that will connect the Luzon to strategic areas in the Visayas and in Mindanao is being ironed up by the Philippine government under the Build, Build, Build program for its immediate construction.
This project will have a total of eight bridges and a cost at around P269.19-billion.
In spite of the fact that there is no timeline yet, the list of bridges have been declared and are set to be sent in for endorsement and approval of the Investment Coordination Committee (ICC).
The projected bridge are as follows:
1. Luzon to Samar bridge in the Visayas with a total length of 18.2-kilometers.
2. A 20-km Leyte to Mindanao bridge but still under study if it is an underwater tunnel or a long span overhead bridge.
3. Panay to Guimaras bridge with a total length of 5.7-kilometers.
4. An inter-island 12- kilometers bridge connecting Guimaras and Negros.
5. A 1-km long Bohol-Lapinig island bridge.
6. The Lapinig island to Leyte bridge with a length of 18-kilometers.
7. The 5.5-km bridge connecting Cebu to Negros.
8. The Cebu to Bohol bridge with a total length of 24.5-kilometers.
This will add up to around 105-km worth of framework that, as indicated by Finance Secretary Carlos Dominguez III, will help invigorate the economic and financial development and will create employment outside Metro Manila. – JCE
