A 4.5 million dollars worth of weapons has been donated to the Philippines by the Chinese government.

Chinese Ambassador Zhao Jinjuan led the turnover of 3,000 M4 rifles, three million rounds of ammunition, and 30 sniper scopes to Lorenzana and the Armed Forces of the Philippines.

During the handover ceremony at the GHQ Canopy in Camp Aguinaldo, Thursday morning, Defense Secretary Delfin Lorenzana told reporters that the 3000 M4 rifles will be used by the Philippine National Police (PNP), to combat terrorism, while the sniper scopes will be used by the military.

“According to the directive of the President, they will be given to the PNP. If you remember the PNP tried to buy firearms from the US but it has taken them too long to deliver. We are lucky the Chinese government stepped in,” Lorenzana said.

It can be remembered that in June, the Chinese government donated the first batch of weapons, amounting to around $7 million dollars last June which was also given to the PNP. It aimed to symbolize the reestablished ties and friendship between the two nations under the Duterte administration. -Carl E.

  1. They are not M-4 carbine, but are AR-15 semi-automatic for civilians. I did asked one PNP with this Chinese supplied rifle. He said it is a poor performing gun compared to US M-4 Carbine or even our Philippine maid M-16s.
