The Duterte administration on Tuesday said that the United States has expressed its understanding of the Philippine situation as well as its full assurance and commitment to the nation’s defense alliance.
Presidential spokesperson, Ernesto Abella said in his statement that the United States Ambassador Sung Kim made a courtesy call on President Rodrigo Duterte at the Presidential Guest House in Davao City where they discussed the Philippines and the US relations.
He said that Kim, for his part, is quite proud and expressed pride over the cooperation between US and PH intelligence forces in terms of intelligence and information sharing, training and equipment support.”
“Ambassador Sung Kim assured President Duterte that the US understands the security concerns of the Philippines and that the US is ready to provide more military equipment, assistance, and training,” he added.
In spite of his estimations against the US particularly during the administration of former President Barack Obama, President Duterte emphasized the partnership between the two countries in his meeting with Kim.
“The President said that PH-US relations at the bilateral level remain strong and there is a readiness to discuss more matters of mutual interest with the US,” Abella said.
“They concurred that PH and the US have common interests and shared values. Both focused on that these productive engagements and discussions are vital in ensuring that both states are in agreement,” he included. -JCE.
