The deputy director of Russia’s Federal Service for Military-Technical Cooperation (FSMTC) told Sputnik Wednesday that a Russian-made combat helicopter, drones, fast attack boats, and some small weapons, are the types of military equipment the Philippines expressed its interest in purchasing.
Mikhail Petukhov said, “the partners express interest in the Russian military equipment, including combat helicopter equipment, fast boats, unmanned aircraft and small weapons.”
The Langkawi International Maritime and Aerospace Exhibition LIMA-2017 participated by different nations including the Russian delegation headed by Mikhail Petukhov.
According to Petukhov, Russia was ready for the constructive talks and wants for a mutually beneficial cooperation with the Philippines.
“However we have not received an official request for the defense products supplies from the customer yet,” Petukhov noted.
Even though Russia and the Philippines have not iron-out and not yet finalized any military-technical cooperation contracts to date, Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte has voiced his willingness of cooperation with Russia and China that may lead to a possible break-off in the military and technical cooperation with the United States.
Also, a representative for BrahMos Aerospace, a Russian-Indian joint military venture, said amid Thailand Defense and Security-2015 presentation that the Philippines had been among the nations which had communicated enthusiasm for purchasing the BrahMos short-range supersonic cruise missile.
LIMA, which was started in Malaysia’s Langkawi resort on Tuesday is a military equipment presentation and among the largest exhibition in the Asia Pacific region including the Russian technology, showcasing their fighter jets, submarines, and amphibious aircraft at the venue. – JCE.
