War on an illegal drug campaign of Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte has drawn widespread condemnation from the United States, the European Union, and some human rights advocates.
But in spite of all criticism, Beijing expressed its support and backing for the Duterte’s administration war on drug campaign, regardless if the chief executive has come under fire for the rising number of extrajudicial and vigilante killings of drug suspects ever since he took office.
Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Geng Shuang said in a press briefing on Thursday that “Under the leadership of President Duterte, the new Philippine government enacted policies that prioritize combating drug-related crimes.”
Geng said “China understands and supports that. The Chinese government has played a positive role in the international anti-drug campaign and we stand ready to have anti-drug cooperation with the Philippines and formulate a common action plan for it.”
The Chinese Foreign Ministry further stressed that battling drug crimes is a mutual obligation among all nations around the globe. – JCE.
