In Zamboanga City, Monday night, the Philippines’ latest naval ship which is the BRP Tarlac (LD-601) from Indonesia, had a collision with an international tanker vessel while anchored 1,000 yards South of Ensign Majini Pier at Naval Station Romulo Espaldon.

14389688_120300000243161276_2023932339_nA merchant tanker Tasco, with 21 Filipino crews, collided with BRP Tarlac when it was on its way to Bintulo, Malaysia. Luckily, no one was injured from all of the crews onboard the ships when the incident happened.

BRP Tarlac (LD-601) is the lead ship of her class of Philippine Navy landing platform docks. She is the second ship to be named after the Philippine province of Tarlac, one of the provinces considered to have significant involvement in the Philippine Revolution on independence against Spain.

Unfortunately, the BRP Tarlac obtained slight damage on its starboard side bulwark and side ramp from the collision.

“Investigation by the Philippine Coast Guard Station is ongoing to determine the circumstances of the collision”, this is according to Armed Forces public affairs chief Col. Edgar Arevalo.

The BRP Tarlac is currently used n Zamboanga as primary blockage against the Abu Sayyaf Group.
