Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte soft stand and repeated calls to make peace with China makes a group of Chinese investors thinks that the Philippines has much more to offer in doing business and in the way of a holiday lifestyle for Chinese tourist.

According to Chairman emeritus Francis Chua of the Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PCCI), a cruise ship with some 2,000 Chinese tourists and investors is on its way and will be docking in the Philippines soon.

Chua has not given any details, but he pointed out that this may be the first time the Philippines will be having a huge Chinese delegation to visit the country, whose business interests covers IT, automotive, shipping, stock brokerage arriving at a given time.

Chua told journalists on Monday. that “a lot of Chinese are coming in and a lot of people here would like to have more business relationship with China…There is a cruise ship coming in with 2,000 Chinese people, supposedly tourists and investors, and this is significant. (China) is sending somebody to meet me next week.”

“In the event that our relations with China are better, we can get more investments from them, credits and business open doors for both sides. Likewise, if the relationship enhances, we can request that they open up the job market in China for Filipinos. There are a lot of Filipinos working in China yet there is no law. We just want to make it legal,” Chua said.

Chua said, this is also the first time that China will take center stage at the 42ND Philippine Business Conference (PBC), which is slated on October 12-13 at the Marriott Grand Ballroom.

The PBC has created a special session dubbed “One Belt, One Road: Widening the Opportunities for International Trade and Investment” which will primarily feature business opportunities under the Silk Road Initiative of China.

Officials from the PCCI admitted that the past administration was clear in its position of not having any desire to have anything to do with China. In any case, it appears, he said, that under the new administration, both nations are warming up a development he deemed would benefit local companies and industries. – JCE.

  2. In the past, we have been very partisan in our foreign relationship favoring the West over China. It was proven counter productive, China is a large market we ignored and the West treated us with disdain and distrust. President Duterte is right in correcting this wrong approach. Why not take advantage of our strategic location, we are near China so let us use its huge market. If the West needs us, then let them pay rent to stay. The Philippine will benefit if we take a neutral foreig policy.
