The PLH02 Tsugaru, one of the biggest Japanese Coast Guard vessel has arrived today, July 11 in Manila’s South Harbor, to conduct the 6th Joint Maritime Law Enforcement (MARLEN) Exercise together with the Philippine Coast Guard.
The combined exercise will be conducted on July 13 at the waters of Manila Bay and its aim is to combat piracy and armed robbery at sea.
It will be participated by the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) Maritime Security and Law Enforcement Command together with other government law enforcement agencies and representatives from Malaysia, Australia, and USA as observers.
The 105.40-meter length Japanese Coast Guard “Tsugaru” PLH02 based at Hakodate Coast Guard Office in Tokyo, Japan will participate in the activity, showing their assets which include a helicopter (Helicopter Bell 412) and rigid hull inflatable boat for the board, search, and seizure procedure. Also, the PCG will take part and likewise deploy its own air and floating assets in the joint exercise.
The PCG and JCG joint exercise main objectives are to further enhance the capabilities in dealing scenarios such as combating sea pirate and armed robbers at sea, acquire skills and knowledge in conducting airlift rescue operations, and to established camaraderie and mutual understanding between JCG and PCG and other Law Enforcement Agencies. – J.C.E.
