In many cities around the world, subways are the primary form of transportation. They have been around since the beginning of the 19th century and their use has spread to almost all major metropolitan areas in other countries. So why not in the Philippines?

In a recent 3rd and last Philippines presidential debate held in Pangasinan, Presidential bet Senator Grace Poe is very much welcome to have the Philippines a subway system.

Poe said in her speech that the Philippines should have a complete subway system linking the entire cities in Metro Manila also in the Visaya like in Cebu should also have MRT and in Cagayan, though it considers this as a long term solution but it is an ideal solution for the traffic problems around the metropolis.

She explained that the subway system can be done even though Metro Manila is a flood-prone area, “there could be no problem at all, in fact, subway system in other countries were flooded-proof and others go under the sea, so it can be done here”

In 2014 the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) together with National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA), submitted a study on the “Roadmap for Transport Infrastructure Development for Metro Manila and Its surrounding areas including a supplementary report on the Mega Manila Subway Project.”

Proposed Manila’s first subway will run from Market Market and St. Luke’s hospital in The Fort to the EDSA-MRT stations on Buendia and Ayala all the way to Ayala Triangle, the Makati post office and the PNR station on Buendia, then to the LRT-1 station on Buendia and Taft, then across Roxas Boulevard to the World Trade Center and SM Mall of Asia, then back to the EDSA-MRT station on Taft.

Subway systems are the most beneficial carrying system because they are technological, healthy and economical advantages. Systems which are the result of fuel and waste material produced are the most environmentally friendly transport of all.

It is likewise the ideal mode of transport in terms of time-money saving and accessibility for both people who live in cities, thus, once it is done, it is cheaper, more comfortable and safer travel. It will provide to all Filipinos an alternative for a modern and efficient transportation network in Metro Manila. – Jason E.
