Bayan Muna party-list and Former Sen. Renato Saguisag filed a separate motions for reconsideration against a Supreme Court ruling, which upheld the constitutionality of the Enhanced Defense Cooperation Agreement (EDCA).

The high court earlier ruled that EDCA was an executive agreement and not a treaty and that the agreement is constitutional.

Bayan Muna argued the government cannot expect the U.S. to help the country in its maritime dispute with China.

The group said in its motion that “errors and horrors” would again happen if the government will allow the US to build military bases here in the Philippines.

Bayan Muna’s lawyer, Carlos Montemayor, said citing the constitution, that no foreign military troops or facilities should be stationed in the country after 1991.

he added that EDCA did not pass the process applied to treaties and that the EDCA needs Senate concurrence. -John Esconde
