DAVAO City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte said if he be chosen and elected president of the country, he will negotiate and hold bilateral talks with China to immediately resolve the territorial dispute in the West Philippine Sea (South China Sea).

At the proclamation rally of the Partido ng Demokratikong Pilipino-Laban ng Bayan (PDP-Laban) on Monday at Century Park Hotel, in which Duterte was officially proclaimed as the standard-bearer of PDP-Laban on Monday with Senator Alan Peter Cayetano as his running mate. Duterte said in his speech that the nation should avoid showing any drama with regard to resolving the territorial issue with China.

Duterte said, ‘I will talk to them. Huwag na tayong mag-drama.”

He even remember and recalled a discussion between him and a Chinese official telling them that the emerging world superpower should leave the Filipino fishermen alone because fishing in the disputed waters is their source of livelihood.

Duterte courageously said If you continue “f*c*k*ng” with us, you will see me standing there in the Spratly and you have to shoot or execute me.”

He said, My grandfather was Chinese. Once I went to China alone. I asked them to stop their expansion and then there will be no problems.

But if you keep advancing, people will be fearful. What do you want? Shared exploration? That’s okay with me.

But if you keep on threatening the country, this will be my deal with China: You are nearing our shores. That being the case I will slice Palawan in half—lengthwise.

I will tell the Americans they can come here, build another Subic or Clark airbase. Pay only the Filipino $1,000. They can create what they want, place all their missiles here, then let’s fight.

Whatever else can I do? I can also invite Australia whose been expressing some interest in Palawan. They can all have the coastal areas, they can build anything they like. What assures my country’s safety is my only interest here.

The Philippine government made a concrete decision to file a case against China in the hopes of resolving the territorial row at the United Nations arbitral court.

But China has avoided participating in the arbitration proceedings. Instead, China is pushing to have a one on one talks and direct consultation or bilateral talks, which the Philippines refused because of the Beijing unilateral approach and China’s indisputable claims over the entire 90% of the sea.-Jason E.
