Japanese government will soon open its doors to Filipino domestic workers.

It is one of the topics discussed by President Benigno Aquino III and Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe on Thursday, during their bilateral meeting.

Japan is currently accepting a limited number of foreign nurses and caregivers.

“Japan’s reception of the Filipino household workers to Japanese economic special zones… we requested, on the side of the Philippines, that they also prepare the necessary systems,” Kawamura said.

The Japanese government also pledged a P93-billion Official Development Assistance for the Philippines north-south commuter railway project linking Tutuban, Manila and Malolos, Bulacan. Kawamura also said

Kawamura also confirms that Japanese emperor Akihito and his wife Empress Michiko is planning to visit the Philippines early next year as part of the 60th anniversary of the normalization of Philippine-Japan relations.

Emperor Akihito will be the first reigning Japanese emperor to visit the country.
