China has ordered its South sea fleet on high alert status after they received reports that Japan will intervene in the West Philippine issue and will provide defense equipment and technology in the Philippines. Referring to an agreement between President Benigno Aquino III and Japan Prime Minister Shinzo Abe a deal allowing immediate transfer of military assets.
Aside from Japan military aid to the Philippines, Abe told U.S. President Barack Obama, on the sidelines of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation summit, that Tokyo will consider sending its Self-Defense Forces to assist U.S. operations in the South China Sea.
Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Hong Lei said at a press briefing in response to a question regarding Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe’s latest comments on the South China Sea issue.
“They should not make any drastic moves using reasons and excuses for freedom of overflight and freedom of navigation to engage in activities threatening the sovereignty and security of other nations, and facilitating regional militarization, just to justify its wrong doings.” Hong Lei said. Adding there are no problems with freedom of navigation in this region.
China will protect, firmly safeguards and defend its sovereignty against any countries in the South China Sea in accordance with international laws,” Hong added.
Hong Lei said, “At the time of Japanese aggression against China, An island in the South China Sea that had been occupied by Japan during the war, had been recovered by China at the end of world war II.”
