Former security adviser and now Congressman Roilo Golez has announced that the South China Sea situation is about to reach “tipping point” or boiling point. ” The DND should take urgent action on modernizing our navy.”
Golez said that “They should accelerate the AFP Modernization Program immediately”.
He said that “the acquisition of 2 brand new frigate (P18 billion pesos) from South Korea should scrap and instead go back to the original plan to buy 2 good second hand Maestrale missile frigates from Italy at P16 billion pesos for immediate delivery.”

“Deal is a government to government so no possible hanky-panky or kickbacks, which some quarters suspect when the DND decided to order brand new from private shipbuilders in spite of the long construction period when the need is urgent.” he said.
“The Maestrale’s weapons are world class and suited for the defense of the West Philippine Sea” Golez added.

Golez makes a good point, the government to govt deal eliminates (SOME ONLY of) the LOSS due to kickbacks/”overpricing”. Faster delivery is also always good. Earlier use during times of need will always better value for money.
THE TRAITOR -CHINESE SPY IN THE PHILIPPINE GOVERNMENT – SENATE AND CONGRESS ARE THE ONES STOPPING THIS AFP MODERNIZATION AS ORDERED TO THEM BY THEIR BOSS IN BEIJING….THESE PEOPLE MUST BE PINPOINTED ASAP AND SHOOT THEM IN THE HEAD IN RIZAL PARK !!!!!
ANG MGA TAONG ASSIGNED SA GOV’t BUDGET KASAMA NA ANG CONGRESS AT SENADO AY HIMAHADLANG NA MAGAMIT SA AFP MODERNIZATION ANG KASALUKUYAN PONDO NG GOBYERNO DAHIL MAY GHOST ILLEGAL ;PROJECT SILA NA GAGAWIN PARA MASIKWAT NILA ANG PERA AT MAPUNTA SA BULSA NILA!!!! YAN ANG TOTOO AT ANG PAGBILI NG GAMIT PRA SA WPS DEFENSE AY SA MATAGAL PANG BUDGET KUKUNIN—IN OTHER WORDS—MGA PUTANG INA NINYONG NASA GOBYERNO—DAPAT SA INYO AY BITAYIN NG TAONG BAYAN—MGA BUWAYA AT TAKSIL SA BAYAN–ANG IBA SAINYO AY NSA PAYROLL NG china!!!!!putang ina Nino !!!!!
Taga DND or Navy ito. Obvious ka, “Arnel Laguna”. Andon ka sa Bidding ano?
If the shoe fits.. wear it now PH.. why wait for years for a new frigates when if it is true that the issue on west philippine sea is at its tipping point.. The need is already arising why should our military wait? New ones can wait while PN can utilize and mobilize those maestrale class ships if ever our government were to acquires those ships and at the sametime our government saves 2Billion unlike the new ones.. (no offense for our south korean brothers) but it will take the PH 3 years of waitng time plus the trainings needed to operate those state of the art frigates.. I mean.. Yes.. its good to know we are now taking steps to modernize our AFP but our PN needs training too for those Maestrales but it won’t take 4 years right? Do the math.. from time of the ship to be Built right? c’mon Malacañan Palace.. Practicality.. saves us time and troubles also financially wise.. its no rocket science people.. we must take every opportunity that knocks on our door from this day on.. every opportunity missed a shoal is lost.. china won’t budge on this issue mainly because of their pride as an up and coming world power they won’t give those islets up just because of some “Arbitration decision..” its a slap to their governments face (Face palming) that’s why the best solution to this is to stop china dead on their tracks for their reclamation spree on our west Philippine sea the soonest possible time would be best.. war will be inevitable.. but if everyone can avoid it much better.. Because the cost of life is too high for a war that should not happen in the first place if ever.. meaning governments acts on this issue diplomatically and maturely..
lets fight china
there is no problem at all, continue buying the brand new frigates and buy the second hand frigates the same time, at all cost.
Good idia, as the moment we need those second hand warship for emergency cases, but to acquire a brand new one should be purshued
why not first buy mobile land based missile systems coupled with radar systems and surveillance drones for targeting? this is way cheaper than ships. you can easily position these mobile launchers along the western coast of the philippines. a mobile anti-ship system each with 4 anti ship missiles posses an effective deterrent to any ship with hostile intentions. mix that with mobile SAM and the 2 will effectively guard the west philippine sea. the kalayaan group of islands and scarborough are all within reach of land based anti-ship missiles.
Golez`s argument/suggestion is quite logical. So, it should be followed.
Buying 2 secondhand Maestrale missile frigates from Italy is nice gesture by Mr. Roilo Golez but the problem is the Chinese Navy (PLAN) already has the following in their list:
1 Aircraft carrier
3 Amphibious transport docks (LPD)
1 Mobile Landing Platform
27 Landing ship tanks (LST)
31 Landing ship medium (LSM)
8 Attack submarines (SSN)
55 Attack submarines (SSK)
5 Ballistic missile submarines (SSBN)
1 Experimental submarines
25 Destroyers
49 Frigates
23 Corvettes
109 Missile boats
94 Submarine chasers
17 Gunboats
28 Mine countermeasures vessels
10 Replenishment oilers
i support the original plan of getting the maestrale class frigates from Italy and other military equipment included in the original package. it can be immediately delivered, refurbished and commissioned. that’s the best plan at this time before we go to brand new purchases!
those corrupt people in DND opted to go for the brand new because of kick backs and commissions
wIhy not do both! Use the money for the brand new ones to buy the maestrale class frigates from Italy, now. Just set up a bank account ,where Filipino OFWs can send money to fund the brand new ones. I’m sure the Filipinos from all over the world will not mind donating for the National Defense of our country. Just make sure it is on the up and up, no corruption, no kick backs etc. Make it a treasonable crime to profit over the sweat and blood of the Filipino OFWs.
