President Benigno Aquino III on Friday officially endorsed Interior Secretary Mar Roxas as his preferred successor.
Club Filipino in San Juan City, Aquino made the announcement in an occasion called a”gathering of friends”.
He is sure and confident that Roxas will proceed with his reform agenda. Aquino added
Aquino likewise asked his supporters to help enhance and improve Roxas’ ratings in presidential surveys.
The venue was also the same spot where Roxas reported and announced in 2010 that he will set aside his presidential arrangements to offer path to Aquino’s candidacy.
The event was attended by members of the ruling Liberal Party, led by Senate President Franklin Drilon and House Speaker Feliciano Belmonte Jr., and several civil society organizations.
Roxas’ endorsement came after he and the President met with Senators Grace Poe and Francis Escudero, who are also considering trying to keep running for higher office in 2016.At the meeting the four were not ready to achieve an agreement on who will keep running for what positions.
