The Chinese Navy has conducted a vast scale amphibious landing drill in the South China Sea in the midst of elevated pressures in the region, China’s state Broadcaster CCTV reported on Monday.

“Bison class” amphibious air cushion hovercraft were sent during the drill for the first time. as reported by Chinese media.

The hovercraft air cushion vehicles can be loaded with ten armored vehicles, or three heavy tanks with 140 soldiers on board, CCTV reported.

Reports of the drill took after a seven-hour reconnaissance flight by the new US commander of the Pacific Fleet over the South China Sea, especially over the West Philippine Sea, on load up one of America’s newest spy planes.

The CCTV report did not distinguish the particular region of the drill.
